After three years of the old look, I decided to update the ol’ portfolio site.
I also added a bunch of new projects I’ve done in the last year to the portfolio page,
including wedding invitations, brochures, and a couple of custom websites.

The Waidmann family was the first family ever to have me take their pictures over two years ago! See my newbie photos on my personal blog here. Back then, I was shooting with a rented Nikon D50 (I think) and the kit lens, 18mm-55mm. For this shoot, I used my borrowed Canon EOS 40D and rented the 24mm-70mm f/4 L lens–which is why the pictures look so much sharper and cleaner. It’s so much easier to shoot when you have much nicer equipment! Not to mention the post-processing is pretty much cut in half, or even less. But enough photography jargon (as if I’m one to talk!), let’s see the pictures!

The Waidmann family has three boys who are in the acting business! They are charismatic, fun-loving boys and are so natural at posing; I rarely had to tell them what to do! Talk about making my job easier. We shot first by the Santa Barbara pier, but the sun was so harsh and I hadn’t brought a light diffuser or anything, that we decided to go to our next location, Kid’s World. This was back on Thanksgiving weekend, so the trees were still in fall mode. They made for a nice backdrop for the family dressed in red. It was a fun shoot! I hope to continue the tradition of taking their pictures every year. Keep an eye out for these great young men on t.v. commercials and shows!

I’m back with another free printable for you as a way of saying sorry for being away so long! I recently gifted a free haircut to one of my girlfriends who is pregnant with a baby girl. I thought to give her some “Me Time” before her days and nights were filled with taking care of her newborn, which would dramatically lessen her availability to get pampered. I printed it onto 4 in x 6 in cardstock and gave it to her along with some spa accessories in a cute pink box. She was very grateful!

In case you’d like to do something similar, I created a printable pdf for you to download. Click here to go to the link.

File specs:
For Personal Use only.
PDF sized 4 inches by 6 inches.
Fillable text: if you have trouble with the fonts, these are the two free fonts used in the file: Ecuyer Dax and Cheboygan.

*If you’d like the certificate in a different color, size, or font, I can do a custom order for $5! Contact me for details acastrejondesign{at}live{dot}com.

I designed this “mirror” reminder for myself and thought I’d share for whoever may also need an inspirational quote to start the day. Click on the image above or click here to download the 8″x10″ image.

Ruth's Carnival Quinceañera Invitation
Ruth's Carnival Quinceañera Invitation
I fell in love with this font when I saw this carnival-inspired invitation set designed by 45 Wall Design. It inspired me to use it for my sister’s Quinceañera invitation. I couldn’t wait to share it~ it’s one of my favorite invitation designs I’ve done yet! And the party is going to be a-ma-zing!

Other fonts and elements I used:
Rosewood
Adobe Wood Type Ornaments
Twine brush {designed by me, free brush download available for Adobe Illustrator, too}

*If you ever have any questions about a design I post, please let me know. I’m still learning, but I love to share my findings!

I have a lot of catching up to do on posting the many graphic design jobs I’ve done lately. Wedding season and Spring birthdays are upon us! I wanted to photograph each one, printed out and with their envelopes, but I probably won’t get to do that until after our move in July. So, meantime, here’s an invitation I did for my niece. I loved her birthday party–there was a cotton candy machine!

Here I am pretending to be a photographer again. This time it was easy because the models were just that: perfect models! I snapped away while these kids pretty much posed themselves, and soon enough I was left with these shots:

We shot at a park, so the “sand” pictures needed a little photoshop love to take out the cement blocks around them. But they rocked it like it was a real beach!

*one other note: i’m going for the more “natural” look in my photos, so most of these are very minimally edited, but I was playing around with some photoshop actions from Florabella, rain and london, and liked the feel of them. Otherwise, I’m trying to steer away from the vintage, cross-processed look. It won’t be trendy for much longer and I want a more classic look to my photos. Agree? Do you like the cross-processed look?

He did it! Franco graduated last weekend. It was a perfect, perfect day. I’m so proud of him. He’s going to be a terrific doctor.

Doesn’t this family look like they’re having so much fun? They’re so acrobatic! I had a blast taking their family photos.

p.s. yes, this was photoshopped. =)

This is the first of many shoots I will share in the near future, but I wanted to start off with one of my favorites of Naomi and Ethan. Just look at the plays on emotion from one photo to the next–pure joy, timidity, puzzlement, playfulness, love, and seriousness. I could look at these pictures over and over and find something new each time.
